The Gear Generator 3 apps, version 3.2.1, for macOS, Windows and Linux: Gear Generator, and Gear Generator Pro with 3D gear pairs and web views for your own website.
Everything the website does, in a window of its own: your gear sets saved as files on your computer, and every export with no pass to buy. It needs the license key from your purchase e-mail the first time it starts.
Gear Generator runs on a Mac, a Windows PC or a Linux computer, not on a phone or a tablet: open this page on the computer you want it on — the link is in your purchase e-mail.
macOS
Gear Generator

Installing
- Open the downloaded zip (Safari opens it for you): it holds Gear Generator.
- Drag Gear Generator into your Applications folder.
- Open it from Applications or Launchpad. It is signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens like any app from the App Store.
Gear Generator Pro

Installing

What it needs
- A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) and macOS 12 Monterey or newer.
- On a Mac with an Intel processor the apps do not run: use the website, which works in any browser.

Gear Generator

- Open the downloaded zip and run
Gear Generator_3.2.1_x64-setup.exein it. - Windows may stop a new app with Windows protected your PC: choose More info, then Run anyway.
- Allow the installer to make changes, and follow its steps.
- Start Gear Generator from the Start menu.

Installing
Open the zip, then, in a terminal in the folder you unpacked it to:
- Debian, Ubuntu, Mint:
sudo apt install "./Gear Generator_3.2.1_amd64.deb" - Fedora:
sudo dnf install "./Gear Generator-3.2.1-1.x86_64.rpm"· openSUSE:sudo zypper install "./Gear Generator-3.2.1-1.x86_64.rpm" - The AppImage needs no installing:
chmod +x "Gear Generator_3.2.1_amd64.AppImage", then run it. Should it not start, install FUSE 2 (sudo apt install libfuse2, on Ubuntu 24.04libfuse2t64).
Gear Generator is then in your applications menu.
Gear Generator Pro

What it needs
- A 64-bit PC (x86-64) with a current distribution: Ubuntu 22.04 or newer, Debian 12 or newer, Linux Mint 21 or newer, or a Fedora or openSUSE of the same age.
- The packages use the system's WebKitGTK 4.1, which the package manager installs with them. The AppImage carries its own, so it is the larger download, and it runs on other distributions too.
Activating
The first time Gear Generator starts, it asks for the e-mail address you bought it with and the license key from your purchase e-mail. Enter both and choose Register; this needs an internet connection once, and after that the app works offline too.
A license key works on three computers. To move it to another one, choose License… (in the app's menu on a Mac, in the Help menu on Windows and Linux) and Deactivate it there first.
Gear Generator Pro takes a Pro license key. A Pro license opens Gear Generator too, so the two apps can share a computer; a Gear Generator key does not open Pro.
Updating
Download the new version from this page and install it over the old one, as above: your license and your work stay. Files made with Gear Generator 2 (.gg) open in it too.
